Campuses & Access

Charles Sturt University is a regionally based university, with campuses in Albury-Wodonga, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, Port Macquarie, and Wagga Wagga. Each campus has parking for students travelling by car and are accessible by public transport.

Most of the buildings at all campuses are easily accessible, and major buildings have lifts for access to upper floors.

Online Learning

Charles Sturt over a huge suite of online courses, with over 200 to choose from at all levels, in all study areas. They offer extensive support for online students, including IT support, free software access, and 24/7 access to the digital library.

Note that some subjects, particularly those that include lab work or practical experiences, can only be done on campus.

Study Options

Charles Sturt offers undergraduate courses in all standard study areas, including their Joint Program in Medicine, one of the only medical degrees available to study in a regional area.

The academic year is split across two sessions, running roughly from late-February to early-November, with a month-long break between sessions. They also offer an optional third session from early-November to early-January. Each session also includes around ten days of non-teaching. No classes are run over the Christmas and New Year period. Courses at Macquarie are split into core subjects and elective subjects. Most subjects need to be completed in a set sequence, but there may be some flexibility with elective subjects. You can find out more about specific subjects in the course handbook.

Accommodation & Living

Charles Sturt University offer on-campus accommodation at all six of their regional campuses.

Sizes vary from studio to multi-bedroom options. 2023 prices vary from between $173 to $323 per person per week, depending on size and location. The fees for all accommodation options include utility bills – electricity, water, and internet access. All options include basic furnishings and are self-catered. Many options include facilities such as laundry facilities, shared kitchens, and communal spaces.

Charles Sturt currently offers guaranteed accommodation to first year students.

Contracts are offered for one or two sessions. Students must reapply for accommodation at the end of their contract. There are also short-term options for students coming for intensives.

Living off campus is generally cheaper in regional areas than major cities (the current median rental price for an apartment in Wagga Wagga is $340 per week, for example), but rental options can be highly competitive. More affordable options further away can mean a long travel time to and from campus.

Campus & Teaching Facilities

There is a variety of cafés and bars on multiple campuses, as well as other facilities including sport and fitness centres, health and wellness clinics, childcare centres, post offices, and parks and green spaces across campus to enjoy.

Each campus has state-of-the-art teaching facilities, including veterinary clinics and labs at the Wagga Wagga campus, specialist laboratories, and even a winery. Each campus also has a dedicated library.

Student Support

Charles Sturt offers a variety of student support services, ranging from study, disability, LGBTQIA+, career, and support for Indigenous students. All of this information is easy to find and access on their website here.

Industry Partnerships

Charles Sturt runs many commercial enterprises on their campuses, and students can engage with them as part of their studies to gain real world experience.

Workplace learning is embedded into many courses, offering practical placements with real businesses and organisations and the opportunity to get experience in simulated labs and clinics.
