Show students the careers that shape where we live with Place Makers

Most students can name a builder. Far fewer can name the Surveyor who marked the boundary, the Access Consultant who made the front entrance work for everyone, or the Horticulturist who planted the park they walk through every day.

Place Makers puts ten of those roles on your walls, in your fact sheet stand and in your students’ hands. Every file is print ready, so you could set up a full careers display before lunch (our display in the Study Work Grow office took about 15 mins to do below) 🙂.

What is in the Place Makers pack?

This brilliant pack of resources has everything you need – posters, fact sheets, decals, conversation starters, educational resources and more in one Zip file.

Pathway Handbook (16 pages)
Profiles all ten roles, with self-assessment tools, pathway information and practical next steps for students.

Display materials and posters
The main Place Makers title poster, ten individual job spotlight posters, conversation starter posters, display banners for notice boards and career spaces, and a decal sheet you can cut out and laminate.

Job Fact Sheets (10 sheets)
One page per role, covering common tasks, working environment, salary, growth outlook, hours, location, flexibility and Cadi Career Cluster fit. Good for handouts, fact sheet stands and portfolio work.

Teaching Guide (12 pages)
Your starting point. Seven ways to run the theme, a six step display setup, ideas for bringing in local speakers, and ready to send templates for your newsletter and assembly notices.

Curriculum Connections
One page overviews you can share with your heads of department, so teachers can see how the theme connects to their subject and talk about it with confidence.

Library List
A curated list of suggested fiction and non-fiction titles that connect with this theme, ready for your library team to build a display around.

Here is just one example of what it could look like at school:

The ten (10) careers featured

Place Makers are the people who plan, design, build and care for the spaces we live in. They map the land, raise the buildings, power the suburbs, plant the parks and make sure everyone can get in the door.

Land and nature Surveyor (Informer), Horticulturist (Maker)
Structures and energy Civil Engineer (Innovator), Construction Manager (Coordinator), Power Systems Engineer (Coordinator)
People and vision Urban Planner (Innovator), Property Developer (Linker), Access Consultant (Guardian), Community Liaison Officer (Linker), Heritage Consultant (Informer)

Each role is mapped to one of the six Cadi Career Clusters, so students can connect a job they have never heard of to a way of working they already recognise in themselves.

Part of a full-year series

Place Makers is the Term 3 theme in the 2026 Ponder Pathways series which is included in a Ponder Membership.

With one theme per school term, schools enjoy forty (40) different career paths to share across a school year, with new ones coming for 2027.

Term 1: The Wanderers — travel-based careers (available to purchase here)

Term 2: Material World — careers in materials and sustainability (available to purchase here)

Term 3: Place Makers — careers in building and maintaining where we live

Term 4: Feed Me — (currently with Ponder schools, available to purchase in Term 1, 2027)

Each theme follows the same format, so once you’ve established your approach for sharing or displaying these, implementing future themes is easy and makes you look like you’ve always got something new.

Seven ways to run it, from one poster to a full term

The included Teaching Guide sets out seven (7) ways schools you can use each pathway theme:

  • The term long theme – set up displays in week one, feature one role each week through assemblies and homeroom, finish with a challenge or event.
  • Job of the week – swap one poster over each week and send the matching fact sheet out in the bulletin. Minutes, not hours.
  • Careers display – change the posters at the start of term, keep the fact sheet stand stocked, and let the materials work while you focus elsewhere.
  • Intensive careers week – themed assemblies, guest speaker panels, a department display competition and a careers fair built around the ten roles.
  • Targeted cohorts – run small workshops for the students drawn to shaping their community or making ideas real.
  • Counselling resources – keep the handbook and fact sheets printed in your office and bring them into one on one sessions.
  • Library collaboration – hand the Library List to your library team and let them build the display.

Who is it for?

Careers Advisers, Careers Counsellors, and career education coordinators at secondary schools in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and other English-speaking countries.

What format does it come in?

You’ll get a Zip file containing all of the files in PDF – full colour, optimised for screen and print, plus the staff Introduction Video. The posters are perfect for printing at A5/A4/A3, and it’s an instant download after purchase.

💡 Thinking of buying more than one Ponder Pathways pack this year?

At $160 each, all four packs this year would cost you (AUD) $640 ex GST. But a Ponder Membership is just $880 ex GST and includes all four packs plus the full 58-lesson Ponder Program, Student Guides (Entry to Medicine/Scholarships/Early Entry/Subject Selection etc), Weekly Researched Newsletters, Custom School Careers Website, 170+ Job Spotlights, Career Clusters resources, and much more.

Plus, Ponder Members get each new Pathways theme at the start of the term it’s released, not after it ends. i.e. Ponder Members already have access to Term 4’s theme, ‘Feed Me’ at their schools right now. So rather than having to wait, you’ll be one of the first to get the new pack each term.

Printing & Display

What’s the best way to print these posters?

For best results, we recommend:

  • Using a colour printer with high-quality settings

  • Printing a test copy first to check alignment and colours
  • Using ‘actual size’ or ‘100%’ scaling in your printer settings

How can I keep my printed posters looking their best?

To maintain your posters’ appearance and durability:

  • Laminate them for protection against wear and tear
  • Display away from direct sunlight to prevent fading
