James Cook University (JCU) Engineering Futures Camp – 1st-6th July

Are you interested in a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths? Would you love to experience a taste of university life and live on campus for a week?

JCU is excited to present Engineering Futures. This five-day free immersive program offers a unique opportunity for students in Years 10, 11 and 12 to explore the latest technologies, discover careers in STEM and experience university life.

Academy of Interactive Technology (AIT) | Open Day – 13th July

AIT’s Open Day is perfect for those wanting to explore the endless opportunities available in the growing creative industries. This fun and interactive day is a great way to get further information on AIT’s curriculum, course requirements and study pathways. Their friendly staff & students will also be there to talk to and get advice from.
On the day you can expect to:
· Learn about degrees in film, 2D and 3D animation, game design, and IT.
· Hear more about careers and study paths.
· Take a tour of the campus.

University of Sydney | Tahgara Program – 15th – 19th July

The Tahgara Program is an intensive week-long residential program at the University of Sydney, designed to prepare Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Year 12 students for their final exams and equip them for their journey into higher education.
Students attend workshops presented by exam markers, expert tutors, faculty academics, and university staff and students. Designed to build educational capacity and motivation, students participating in the Tahgara Program will experience an individually tailored program, guiding them through scholarship applications, university pathways, exam preparation, as well as receiving one-on-one subject specific tutoring.
There is no cost for the schools or families of students who participate in the Tahgara Program. The University of Sydney will pay for travel, meals, accommodation and all other expenses associated with the program.

Think Science!
A free, nationwide science competition for primary and secondary school students in Years 3 to 10, Think Science! encourages students to perform an investigation using the Science Inquiry skills from the Australian Curriculum and document their process and findings in a video. Over $10,000 in prizes are on offer for winning schools and students.
Competition opens: Monday 25th March 2024
Closing date for submission of entries: Friday 16th August 2024

Plan Your Own Enterprise
Opens: April 1, 2024
Closes: September 13, 2024
In up to 3,500 words students should present a creative idea for a small business as a business plan. Business and Financial Planning enables students to see the interconnectedness in business operations allowing them to have an in-depth understanding of business functions.

Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) (Cyber Security and Robotics) – Work Experience (year 11 & 12 students)

The ASD work experience program is for Year 11–12 students at the Australian Cyber Security Centre. The program focuses on students who are considering further studies in a STEM-related field.
The week-long program offers you an opportunity to extend your knowledge and skills through practical challenges.
Students who enjoy discovering how technology works are considered favourably over those who use technology.
All placements are in Canberra. Students from interstate are encouraged to apply. Interstate students will receive assistance with travel (transportation) costs. Interstate students are responsible for their own accommodation.

Simpson Barracks Expo – 5th May

The Defence Work Experience Program has advised that the Army Simpson Barracks Expo is open for registrations. This event has been developed to showcase the variety of careers with Army and Defence. Tickets are limited for this free event.

There will be courtesy shuttle buses from Watsonia Train Station to Simpson Barracks throughout the day for students with their parents. Timetable is attached below. Gates will open at 10:00am and close 4:00pm. Photo ID is required on the day for Entry. (School ID is acceptable for U18)
